This dōbari shinai is listed as ideal for use in shiai (jissengata). The very same shinai used by Teramaoto Shōji san during his illustrious shiai career, the Hayate’s balance is best described as being ever so slightly lighter at the kisaki end. Although Teramoto san always makes it look simple, the lightweight feel of this shinai from top to bottom truly does make it extremely easy to swing in shiai.
